October 2009, after making his debut in Barcelona B, Sergi Roberto summoned by the Spanish Under-17 national team to play in the World Cup 2009 FIFA U-17 in Nigeria.

5 November 2009, before it was replaced by Javier Espinosa in the 88th minute, Sergi Roberto scored a hat-trick against Burkina Faso at the Sani Abacha Stadium, Kano. Spain eventually finished in third place in the tournament, with him and Atletico Madrid, Borja González scored a total of eight goals for the team.
